Commenting on the new USA data, Founder of Veggly, Alex Felipelli, said: “We are very pleased to see so many new and growing dating hotspots for vegans and vegetarians across the USA. Today, Virginia is the shining example for the best ratio of active vegan daters in relation to population. If you’re in Virginia, or nearby, and you’re looking for herbivorous love, it’s the place to be!

“But let’s not forget New York and California – both have excellent scores on our rankings, 4th and 7th, considering how big their populations are. They are still great places to date as a vegan or vegetarian – and if you’re in California, you could always just head north to Oregon, ranked 3rd overall.

“Building on our success in the USA, we have significantly increased our marketing investment throughout the country recently. Our top priority is to help these hotspots grow all over North America and the world by making the Veggly app accessible to everyone.”

Vegan Marriage – Love Story in SoCal

On Veggly, when we hear the stories of people who found a partner or friends, it’s reason to celebrate. Hearing about a Vegan Marriage is just spectacular!

A moment like that happened just about a week ago. I was going through my work emails, as usual, when I came across one titled “Veggly Marriage”. When I open it, I read this heartwarming story of Kendra and Dave! We live and work hard to hear stories like these! Our main goal has always been to bring the veggie community together and to see our wish come true feels amazing.

Veggly Marriage

Kendra and Dave are both from and live in southern California. The isolation of COVID encouraged them to move online in order to meet other like minded people.

They found each other on Veggly in February 2021. Their vegan marriage took place in March 2022, on their one year anniversary of being a couple!

Husband and wife have both been vegan for 15 years, so being in a vegan relationship is important to them and ultimately what brought them to Veggly.

Besides their love for fruit, plants and animals, Dave and Kendra surf, swim, meditate, travel, hike, adventure and love life together.

They couldn’t be happier and more grateful to have found each other.

What is the Vegan Population in the US?

What is the vegan population in the US? And what about the vegetarians? Most people are already aware that plan-based lifestyles have become widely popular in the past few years, but how popular are they? The answers to these questions might show that there’s a lot more vegans and vegetarians nowadays than you might think.

It’s fair to say that, in 2021, veganism has become a lot more mainstream than it used to be, say, twenty years ago. Most supermarkets will have some kind of vegan product available, many influencers and celebrities are now endorsing a cruelty-free lifestyle and there is no shortage of articles, memes and recipes all geared towards vegans and vegetarians all over the internet. In this day and age, anybody could be vegan, but the real question is, how many people actually are?

vegan population in the us

A recent study, conducted by Ipsos Retail Performance in 2020, has found that, in the past 15 years, the number of Americans following plant-based diets has increased by roughly 9.6 million people, which accounts for nearly 3% of the population in the US. Although it might not seem like that’s a lot of people, it’s important to know that this represents a 300% increase in just 15 years! This number also appears in a 2018 study by Gallup, so it seems safe to say that the vegan population in the US really has increased a lot recently. They have also found that around 5% of American adults consider themselves to be vegetarian. While the numbers may vary slightly, many recent studies point towards the 3% figure for vegans and 5% for vegetarians. Just in the United States, these numbers account for millions of people.

It was also found that the states with most interest in veganism have more Democratic voters (Vermont, Washington, California), while more meat-eating states (Mississippi, Alabama, South Dakota) lean towards the Republican Party.

A dramatic increase

While it might seem crazy to see how many people have turned their backs on meat and other animal products in such a short time, it also makes a lot of sense. One thing that certainly helped plant-based diets and lifestyle to become more available and accessible to the general population is the rise of social media. An article from BBC shows that, while the vegan population in the UK grew in a similar manner to the US, Google searches for topics related to veganism also spiked. Influencers and high-profile celebrities publicly endorsing veganism on the internet have also most certainly contributed to the movement’s newfound popularity.

As it becomes more desirable, it also becomes more necessary. As the global climate crisis progresses at unimaginable rates, more people begin to see plant-based lifestyles as a necessary solution to reverse human action that will render the planet uninhabitable for humans. While animal welfare is still a major concern for vegans, more and more people now cite sustainability and the environment as reasons to abandon animal products for good.

The Best Places for Vegan Dating in the USA

Every vegan and vegetarian is well aware of the fact that maintaining a plant based diet can be way easier – or harder – depending on location. This is also true when to comes to finding new relationships with other vegans. New data released by Veggly reveals some of the best places for vegan dating.

So, what are the best places for vegan dating?

New York has the highest number of Veggly users, making it the top state for vegan dating in the USA. We can’t really say this comes as a shock! It was hard enough not falling in love with New York, considering all the excitement that comes with a multicultural big city environment and the never ending restaurant options. Now it’s gotten even more irresistible.

new york best vegan dating

Virginia features the second highest number of users in relation to population (377 per million). This might be surprising, given that the southern state is one of the best places for vegan dating in the USA, placed higher than California. The west coast state is considered by many to be a true vegan wonderland, but came in third. However, if we take only the total of users per state, California definitely takes the trophy. It has more Veggly users than any other state. We believe that solidifies California’s status as the ultimate vegan utopia in the USA and one of the best states for vegan dating altogether!

Overall, we’ve found that the east coast of the United States accounts for many vegans looking for love and new relationships,. States like New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida made it into the top 10 best states for vegan dating.

These prominent hotspots aren’t the only great locations for vegan dating, though. We’ve also found that Texas almost made into the top 10, placing at 11th, which can be quite surprising to many people, and we agree. But if veganism can grow in Texas, it can grow just about anywhere!

Vegan dating around the world

If you don’t live in the United States of America, there is no need to feel left out. As Veggly becomes more popular across the globe, it seems like things are definitely improving when it comes to finding plant based love. We sure hope that soon, the best places for vegan dating will be, well, anywhere and everywhere!

United Kingdom Tops Rankings For Vegan Dating

vegan dating

Veggly, the world’s leading dating app for vegans and vegetarians, today releases new data revealing the world’s best hotspot countries for vegan dating.

The United Kingdom takes the coveted number one spot for the second year in a row with the highest number of users in relation to population.

At present, the UK has well over 45,000 (45,633) users on Veggly, meaning there are nearly 700 (685) users per million people in the country. The Netherlands is close behind the UK with the second highest number of users in relation to population (601 users per million people).

Germany places third thanks to a strong user base of 46,375, which means there are nearly 560 Veggly users per million people in the country. Spain is fourth with a figure of 435 users per million.

Overall, the United States boasts the highest number of Veggly users, with 60,158, but has a much higher population than the UK (328million vs 67million), so scores lower on the ranking list. Brazil has the second most users overall with over 51,000.

In the past two years, Veggly has grown rapidly and reached over almost 400,000 global users (16x growth since July 2019).

From Brazil to Canada, to Australia, to Korea, to Denmark, and beyond. Available worldwide (used in 181 countries), Veggly is set to continue its rapid growth thanks to teams of vegans who have worked together to translate the app into 8 languages: English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, French, Italian, Danish, and Polish, with many more languages on the way.

Commenting on the new rankings data, Founder of Veggly, Alex Felipelli, said:

“The UK is an excellent hotspot for herbivores looking for romance and new relationships. The user base there has almost doubled in the last 10 months and it’s also great to see lots of new vegan dating communities growing, even in other countries around the world. There has never been a better time to be a vegan looking for love!

“We will build on this success and continue to re-invest in Veggly further. The ultimate goal is to provide the best dating app possible for vegan and vegetarian communities, making sure everyone feels welcome and finds love. We will do everything we can to help these hotspots grow all over the world and build new ones by making the Veggly app accessible to everyone.

Building on the recent growth, Veggly is also today announcing the launch of its ‘teleportation’ feature, enabling users to meet more daters, even when far away.

For example, a user in LA can now experience what the app is like in London by changing their location. Initial tests have shown this is a popular option for daters preparing for a trip to another country so they can meet people through the app before arriving.*

*Teleportation feature is available on the app for free until the end of June 2021

56% of American vegans wouldn’t date a meat-eater

vegans dating meat-eaters

New US research from Veggly reveals that over half of American vegans wouldn’t date a carnivore

The vegan dating app Veggly has released a new survey revealing that more than half of US vegans wouldn’t date a meat-eater. Veggly surveyed over 2,000 people in the United States to reveal the top vegan dating trends for 2021. It showed that well over half of American vegans (56%) wouldn’t consider a relationship with a meat-eater.

Vegan dating trends

American vegans are 13% more likely to avoid dating meat-eaters than vegans from other countries where the average figure is only 43%. In addition, 18% (nearly 1 in 5) of American vegans wouldn’t even consider dating a vegetarian as they are still consumers of animal products. This figure is also higher than vegans from other countries (1 in 10).

American vegetarians are also more reluctant when it comes to meat-eaters. 1 in 2 (50%) wouldn’t consider a carnivore for a partner, compared to 38% for vegetarians from other countries.

Rise of veganism

The rise of veganism and plant-based diets across the globe in the past two years has fuelled Veggly’s rise to prominence, with significant increases in vegan populations in almost every country. A recent study revealed that the number of Americans following plant-based diets is up by nearly 10 million over the last 15 years.

The United States boasts the highest number of Veggly users in one country, with 66,130. Brazil is second, with over 60,345 users, and Germany is third with over 47,228 users. The UK places fourth, with 46,575 users, and Spain is fifth with 16,122 users.

Commenting on the new findings, Founder of Veggly, Alex Felipelli, said: “These findings help us understand why Veggly has become so popular in the United States. American vegans clearly want to be with someone who shares their love of animals. For many American vegans, their ‘veganism’ is a way of life, so it’s understandable they wouldn’t want to be with a partner that consumes animals or animal products.

“We created Veggly for that exact reason and we are very proud of the successful growth in the US. Our mission is to help herbivores find the best and most compatible partners, and we are 100% dedicated to helping this community grow as much as possible. We always reinvest in the platform every month and make improvements to the platform every week to improve the experience and cope with rising demand.”
