10 Tips for a First Vegan Date (For Vegetarians and Omnivores)

A first date can be quite challenging by itself. Wanting to make a good first impression is important, but can also come with some anxiety. Things aren’t so different when it comes to vegans. However, if you’re a vegetarian or an omnivore, there is are some extra steps to be taken in order to not be disrespectful by accident. Do you want to get it right on your first vegan date? Then check out these 10 tips!

1 – Restaurant

Vai chamar o Veg-Crush pra jantar? É ideal verificar se o restaurante é vegano ou se possui Are you taking your Veg-Crush out for dinner? It’s important to check if the restaurant is vegan or at least has good vegan options. This one might seem a bit obvious, but many restaurants use animal products even for vegetarian recipes. On the other hand, the simple fact that a restaurant serves these types of products would already go against the ideas behind veganism. For this reason, don’t forget to do some research; this will positively show you’re invested in your date.

2 – Animals

Animal welfare is a top priority for veganism. Because it is a main aspect of the vegan movement, it is also the source of many issues in interactions between vegans and carnivores. So, if you want your date to go well, don’t even think about making jokes about it or trying to invalidate your date’s ideas about this issue. If you bring this subject up with previous knowledge and demonstrate empathy for the animals, you’re sure to make a positive impression. This also signals that, even though you’re still not a vegan, you respect and understand the importance of veganism.

3 – Meat

Avoid eating any and all types of meat when you’re around your date. For vegans, not eating meat goes beyond personal preference. It is the end product of abuse and poor treatment so, for many vegans, this can be offensive.

4 – Proteins

Asking where the other person “gets their proteins from” is repetitive for vegans and can make the conversation quite boring. It might seem like just a question, but many people ask it as a joke or to embarrass vegans. It is still really nice if you’re interested in how a vegan diet actually works. There are better ways to ask and show you’re interested. For instance, you can ask “What are some of your favorite vegan foods?”. The important thing here is to not insinuate that a vegan diet in and of itself may not be enough to have a healthy life.

5 – Salad

You won’t win anyone over by offering a salad as an option. Vegans are human being too, and they also like richer, or even unhealthier, foods every now and then. Most vegans may prefer a Veg-Burger or other indulgent meals. Don’t be afraid to try something fun!

6 – Jokes

When you’re talking to your date, avoid jokes about veganism and animals. Disrespecting the other person’s values, lifestyle and ideas can drastically affect your night. Respect is one of the most important things in any relationship, so don’t start off with the wrong foot.

“Plants feel pain too!”

Even if you’ve heard about this before, don’t say or suggest that plants feel pain. Because they don’t have a central nervous system, plants cannot feel pain. This is simply false information, and it’s used to try and “demoralize” veganism. If you say anything of the sort, it’s very likely your date will look at you with a dumbfounded expression.

8 – Fish

Avoid asking “Not even fish?” to your date. Although many people still (!) don’t know about this, fish are animals too. They feel pain, fear and have the right to a healthy and clean ecossystem. So no, your vegan date doesn’t eat fish.

9 – Alcholoic beverages

Many wines and beers are clarified with animal products, like gelatin. It might not seem like much, but the use of animal protein during the fabrication process already makes this already disqualifies non-vegan wines and beers from your list of options. You’ll definitely stand out by choosing the correct beverage for your first vegan date.

10 – Environment

The environment is a theme that can elevate your conversation during the date. It can be approached in a positive manner and make your date lighter and more meaningful at the same time. It’s important to be well informed when talking about this subject, so try to keep that in mind.

Italian couple meets on Veggly! #OurVegMatch

We get so happy when we bring a new vegan couple together! This is the main reason why we created Veggly and knowing that we are helping people this way make us very happy and inspire us to keep going!

Dario and Marta met through Veggly and are dating nowadays. Take a look at the testimony that they shared with us:

“Me and Dario met on Veggly in December 2020. I wasn’t looking for anything serious, but we immediately got along so well that our chats were almost endless. Unfortunately, Italy was in lockdown at the time and we lived in two different cities, Trento and Milan, so it was not possible to meet in person. However. we were so aligned on many things and share the same values that our desire to meet was increasingly stronger and in January Dario, with a quiet romantic gesture (and also forced by Covid regulations 😂), decided to come to my house and didn’t left it for the following months. Since then we always lived together, alternating between our two houses.

In this year we both grew together, learned how we worked together and as individuals, we traveled a lot, we argued, and made peace countless times. But, most importantly, we lived the love we both deserved 🥰…… and all of this would have never happened if that day in December Dario didn’t write me on Veggly. So thank you, because you too are part of our story 💕” – Dario and Marta (@ourlittleveganplace)

Brazilian Couple Welcomes First Baby After Meeting on Veggly

Fabio and Danielle, who matched on Veggly in 2020, are “over the moon” after Elis’ birth and plan to raise the healthy little girl as a vegan.

Back in 2020 dating life wasn’t the easiest thing in the world for Fabio. Having spent 21 years as a vegetarian (and now fully vegan), Fabio has talked about how difficult dating could be when you’re looking for a vegan partner. According to him, “there’s no special meet up place like a nightclub, so it’s very hard”, which is something just about anyone who uses Veggly could relate to.

Danielle and Fabio, from São Paulo, Brazil, matched on Veggly in May 2020, and are now sharing the news of the healthy birth of their daughter, Elis (born on July 8th 2021), in partnership with Veggly.

For Danielle and Fabio, the connection was instant, and the pair spent several days texting on Veggly before finally meeting in person. “Before, during and after our first dinner together, we emptied three bottles of wine and our Veg-Match came out into real life.”, Fabio told us. According to him, after that first date, he introduced Danielle to his dogs, Cindy and Toddy. If that doesn’t show just how special these two are, we don’t know what will!

Their love continued to grow as they started seeing each other more and more often and, eventually, became pregnant with the first Veggly Baby. Danielle said that they are over the moon: “Our dreams have come true and we are overjoyed to welcome Elis into the world.” The couple has also expressed their gratitude to the app developers for making it possible for them to meet online. “If it weren’t for our ‘Veg-Match’, we wouldn’t be here with Elis in our arms right now.”

This news is very exciting for Veggly as well. Seeing a couple who met on the app giving birth to the first ever “Veggly baby” is like having a wild dream come true. Commenting on the couple’s new bundle of joy, Veggly Founder, Alex Felipelli has said that “The Veggly team and I will always do our best to make sure every herbivore on our app finds their ‘Veg-Match’. This wonderful new milestone will strengthen our commitment to helping this community grow as much as possible.

Newly Engaged US Couple Meets on Veggly! #OurVegMatch!

Meet Wil and Nate, who found each other on Veggly and fell in love at first sight – or should we say love at first text? They told us one of the most beautiful stories we’ve received so far from couples who met through the app. Now, we would like to share this inspiring modern love story with you!

veg-match

“I just want to say how happy I am to have found Veggly. I had enough with dating women who just couldn’t understand my ethical concerns regarding animals. Me being vegan and them being non-vegan was something that became a recurring issue. And working from home as a professional artist didn’t exactly give me many opportunities to meet women, let alone the right women. Therefore, I decided to search for a veg-friendly dating app in hopes of finding a better match. I got an account with Veggly and was happy to know that there were others out there who cared about the things I cared about.

My work, however, consumed me, and for months I hadn’t yet dated anyone from the app, that is, until June of 2020. I opened up Veggly and there she was! Her name was Wil. She was so beautiful and she was vegan too! It was her first day on the app. We started chatting, and quickly took our conversation to Instagram, and then Skype. I lived in Tampa. She lived in Miami. We were both over four hours away from each other, but that didn’t stop us from getting to know one another. We spent two and a half months talking every day before meeting in person. So, by the time we met, it didn’t take long for me to ask her to be my girlfriend. We became a couple in September of 2020.

While our relationship continued to be long distance, we made the effort to visit each other on weekends. Sometimes she’d come to Tampa. Sometimes I’d go to Miami. And other times we’d meet in the middle – exploring beaches, canoeing rivers, and camping in the wilderness. It was so much fun to have the opportunity to spend time with her, and it was always comforting to know that our diet and our ethics were never going to be an issue.
Eventually, after months of long distance dating, Wil accepted a remote position, which gave her the opportunity to move to Tampa! Since her move, we’ve had the opportunity to grow together, and to know each other more deeply. In September of 2021, one year since we met in person, I happily asked Wil to be my wife. Without hesitation she said yes!
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to meet each other. We are so excited to start the rest of our lives together. Wil tells me that she almost didn’t sign up, but that her brother encouraged her to, because she “could find the one!” Well, turns out, she did. And it only took her one day! “

Making Up for Lost Time: Online Dating During the Pandemic

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the entire world has had to adjust to a new reality. Social distancing, lockdowns and other restrictions were put in place in an effort to contain the spread of the virus, but also account for some – yet not all –  of the biggest changes in daily life we’ve all experienced since last year. However, for those who stayed at home as much as possible and avoided social gatherings, things have gotten quite lonely due to the isolation. For a long time, the safest option for connecting with people was through online dating during the pandemic.

While the COVID-19 pandemic is still a very real problem, it seems that people’s lives are already starting to change again. As lockdowns all over the world ease and vaccines become more widely available to the global population, more people are feeling more comfortable with going back to dating.

New survey shows surge in online dating during the pandemic

According to a new Veggly survey, 40% of users admit that they are going on more dates and investing more time in online dating than they did before the pandemic. Another 43% of these people say they are already back to their dating lives pre-Covid. In comparison, 45% of users haven’t been dating at all, not even online dating during the pandemic. This shows that a significant portion of vegans and vegetarians feel a strong desire to make up for lost time. In fact, 29% of people said that going on a date is #1 in their To Do lists after restrictions ease in their area.

It’s very understandable that people are eager to go back to dating and other social activities. After all, going through this pandemic hasn’t been easy at all, so many are seeing the decrease in restrictions as a green light to go and enjoy life. What felt like being stuck to online dating during the pandemic is soon turning into an interesting option to go back to normal. Activity has increased in Veggly in the past couple of months, which further confirms the shift in attitude. With that, it becomes clear that, like a groundhog crawling out from its burrow, vegan daters are ready to go out in the sun and get back in the game. If you’re one of those vegans, don’t forget to stay safe and continue respecting public health guidelines as well as other restrictions that might still be in place in your area!

The Best Places for Vegan Dating in the USA

Every vegan and vegetarian is well aware of the fact that maintaining a plant based diet can be way easier – or harder – depending on location. This is also true when to comes to finding new relationships with other vegans. New data released by Veggly reveals some of the best places for vegan dating.

So, what are the best places for vegan dating?

New York has the highest number of Veggly users, making it the top state for vegan dating in the USA. We can’t really say this comes as a shock! It was hard enough not falling in love with New York, considering all the excitement that comes with a multicultural big city environment and the never ending restaurant options. Now it’s gotten even more irresistible.

new york best vegan dating

Virginia features the second highest number of users in relation to population (377 per million). This might be surprising, given that the southern state is one of the best places for vegan dating in the USA, placed higher than California. The west coast state is considered by many to be a true vegan wonderland, but came in third. However, if we take only the total of users per state, California definitely takes the trophy. It has more Veggly users than any other state. We believe that solidifies California’s status as the ultimate vegan utopia in the USA and one of the best states for vegan dating altogether!

Overall, we’ve found that the east coast of the United States accounts for many vegans looking for love and new relationships,. States like New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida made it into the top 10 best states for vegan dating.

These prominent hotspots aren’t the only great locations for vegan dating, though. We’ve also found that Texas almost made into the top 10, placing at 11th, which can be quite surprising to many people, and we agree. But if veganism can grow in Texas, it can grow just about anywhere!

Vegan dating around the world

If you don’t live in the United States of America, there is no need to feel left out. As Veggly becomes more popular across the globe, it seems like things are definitely improving when it comes to finding plant based love. We sure hope that soon, the best places for vegan dating will be, well, anywhere and everywhere!

We get so happy when we help bring a new vegan couple together! 🌱 And this story is from a vegan expat who met her vegan boyfriend, while leaving abroad. 😍 Meet your vegan boyfriend too: Get Veggly now!

Veggly’s main mission is to help vegans and vegetarians find their soulmates and we believe being an expat makes it even more important to meet new vegan friends and partners!

Allana and Thomas believed that and are now dating. 😊 Here’s the testimonial Allana shared with us:

Hello!
I would like to share my love story with you and also to thank you for creating such an amazing app that allows us to find people that have similar values and beliefs.

I am Allana, a Brazilian student doing an exchange in France.

So, I started using the app around March 2020 when France was in lockdown and also my twin sister pushed me to use it. I met nice people there who became my friends. But then, I stopped using it, because I was a little bit busy with all the work and projects of my University.
In August, I restarted to use Veggly and I matched with Thomas, a vegan French. We talked for 2 weeks and then we decided to meet at the SMMMILE Festival, a vegan event in Paris.

Introducing Your Dog to Your New Special Someone

Introducing your dog to your new crush can have its difficulties. Read on for ways to make it smoother.

54.9% of households in America have a dog, so when you’re in a new relationship, the odds are that you are going to be introduced to their other significant other – their dog! 😊 🐶

When you’re the one with a dog at home, you may want to introduce your new partner gradually, going for walks together before bringing them into your home. This is especially important if you have a dog that has a tendency to be possessive.

You might want to also broach the subject of your dog’s diet – if your pooch is the only one that has meat for dinner.

Introducing Your Dog to Your New Special Someone

Introducing your dog – The first meeting

Taking your dog for a walk together is the ideal way of introducing your new partner to your pooch. In fact, going for a country walk is also a good idea for a casual date. You can head out together in the late morning with a vegan or vegetarian picnic, and enjoy some delicious lunch while out in nature. Most dogs require one or two hours of walks every day, so you can explain to your new partner that this is part of your daily routine. Walking the dog is also a wonderful way to wind down together at the end of the day, and to stay fit and healthy.

Love me, love my dog

When you have a dog, they are a big part of your life. Let’s face it, dogs are basically furry, non-verbal children. It is important to explain to your new partner that your dog is one of the family too. There are big advantages to having a dog, especially if you are working from home, as 42% of the population currently is. Dog’s offer loyal companionship, and 66% of people working from home say they feel happier for their dog being there. Dogs are great for wellbeing when you’re working and give routine to your life, so it’s important that your new partner understands the importance of your dog’s routine within your working schedule. A new partner will need to understand that your dog is important to you – they are never “just a dog.”

Introducing your dog – Possessive dogs

If you think about how excited your dog gets when you come home, you will understand how much you mean to your dog. This can explain why some dogs get possessive or jealous of new people in your life. You may even find your dog trying to push between you when you are sitting on the sofa enjoying a glass of vegan wine. Your dog may even whine and shove you, and some dogs have been known to go for more extreme attention-seeking behavior, such as being destructive. It is important to be consistent and firm with your dog if this is the case, and send the message that this behavior is not acceptable.

When you find a new partner, it is a good idea to introduce your dog gradually. Start with some walks, and you will soon find that your dog will be sitting on their lap and welcoming them into your home with excitement.
